It's My Birthday!

Earlier this month I celebrated my 23rd birthday. I know, "Ooh -she's getting old." Ya right. 23 is still young, so there. It could be worse: I could be 32. -On wait, that's how old my sister is. Anyway, we didn't do a whole lot for the day. We had church because it was Sunday, but I did make my own birthday cake (angel food) and my birthday dinner (beef roast with potatoes, carrots and peas all cooked in a crock pot). By the time we got back from church Tyrone, Elizabeth, and I were all too tired to do much else.

Just for Fun

Elizabeth's Aunt Angela gave her this nightgown for Christmas. I'm sure that if we were to put a bonnet on her, she'd look like a little pioneer girl. She looks very nice in it though.
Here's a shot of Elizabeth with her grandpa at Christmas time.

One night about a week ago, Elizabeth adamantly refused to go to sleep when it came to bedtime. She took her bedtime bottle as usual, nearly zonked out completely, but when she finished, she jumped wide awake. (Sigh.) After that, she decided that she didn't want to go to bed, but Mom and Dad don't stay up late just to socialize. She was in hr crib by 8:00 that night, but like always when this happens, she wiggled her way out of her blankets and crawled around her cage and pulled herself up using the bars --wailing the whole time. Needless to say, Mom had to go put her back down on her back and re-wrap her several times until finally she'd had enough too. Elizabeth was left to complain to herself until she fell asleep on her own. Sometimes, you just have to do that. Well, after another 45 minutes or an hour (you lose track when you're ignoring constant insults made by your 8-month-old), I went to check on our princess, and this is what I found.

I'm going to guess that Elizabeth attempted one final time to crawl out of her blankets and make for the edge of her crib that faces the open door. She usually stands there when peeved and chews out anyone who strays into the view of the hallway. Well, in mid-motion, it looked like Elizabeth knocked out on the spot and was too tired to roll over. Her bum was in the air and she was snoring loudly. What a big little girl. It can be so tough when you're too cute for your own good.

Can I Get A Halleluiah Chorus!?!

I finally discovered it: the secret to getting Elizabeth to eat solid food. after two-and-a-half months of trying, I finally found something she will eat!
***CANTALOUPE***
Who knew? The squirt stuck a piece in her mouth when I was trying it out with her, and she stopped suddenly, gave a big smile, and was hooked. She loves cantaloupe! She even took it from a spoon when I cut it up really tiny and offered it to her. She even took it from my hand. She never did that before.
Needless to say, I'm stoked and feeling highly encouraged. Last night at dinner, I fed Elizabeth some baby food squash, and she ate it. Today at lunch, I gave her some applesauce, and she at that too! She now opens her mouth and doesn't spit everything out. It's like feeding a baby!
I'm hoping this isn't just a fluke and that Elizabeth will continue her new-found eating habits. Tonight, I think I'll even try mixing some oatmeal cereal in with her food. So, just for the record, Elizabeth now eats: cheerios, bread, crackers, bananas, cantaloupe, squash, applesauce, carrots, and green beans. --Or, at least she's tried the latter foods.
